This is a question that we constantly ask ourselves and customers as well. It’s becoming more important than ever to know how eco-friendly products are made and what they contain.
Our thinking about this topic and the creation of environmentally friendly candles are extensive. We could write a book with our notes! This is essential for both our fair trade and B-Corp certifications, as well as for the well-being and well-being of our customers and the women artisans who make each environmentally friendly candle.
Here’s a look at the environmental impact of our candles and how green they are. Paraffin Wax vs. Soy
Paraffin is the main ingredient in candles all over the globe. It has a great scent and is easily available. Paraffin is a byproduct of petroleum refinement and can be used to make many wax for candles, including the food-grade one that is used on apples. It’s part of the continuing global dependence on fossil fuels, which is driving climate change.
Paraffin can release toxic chemicals into your home, which is the biggest problem. Any kind of fire, including wood fireplaces or gas stoves, can release some toxic chemicals. It is important to reduce them and ensure that you have fresh air. This is why ultra-efficient homes have air ventilation systems. Without them, the carbon dioxide that builds up from carpets, furniture, and other substances would make you sick.
These candles are made from high-quality soy and coconut wax, which is why they are better for the environment as well as our collective health. It is renewable and burns cleaner. Soy wax is made with soybeans. It is biodegradable, non-toxic, and made from vegetable-based ingredients. Soy candles burn at a lower temperature, which makes them last longer and more efficiently.
We have worked hard to make the most sustainable and eco-friendly candles possible. They also carry a beautiful scent. After many years of hard work, we are proud to announce that we have finally mastered a blend of organic, odorless, soy wax and coconut wax. This makes for the most beautiful candles. Although it is more expensive than pure soybean oil, the candles are clean-burning and have a lower carbon footprint. Our recipe is completely vegetable-based and does not contain any additives or dyes.
Beeswax
Beeswax has amazing properties. It is renewable and can be used to remove pollutants from your home. It is important to know how the honey is harvested. Only beeswax is used from carefully managed sources. A relaxing evening at the candlelight table is made easier by yellow beeswax’s mild honey scent.
Fragrance & Wicks
You can see what goes into a candle in your home. We are careful about all ingredients. We don’t use fragrance enhancers or dyes. Instead, we prefer to make moderately scented eco-friendly candles rather than the over-scented and brightly colored ones that you can find on the market. All of that stuff ends up in your lungs.
It is important to choose fragrances without harmful ingredients. Many scented candles contain phthalates.
They don’t contain any other ingredients you don’t like or can’t pronounce. We don’t use any of it because it’s such a long list. Our fragrances contain essential oils and other non-toxic ingredients. They are the same as those used in lotions and soaps
Today’s candles are made from either pure cotton wicks or cotton woven with papers. There are still candles that contain metal in their cores, which help keep the wick rigged and make them burn hotter. Seriously? It is hard to believe anyone would want to have metal burned in their home.
Minimizing Soot
Pure blue flames mean that it is soot-free, which is not possible with candles. All candles have a yellow flame. It is the same as a wood fireplace. This means that there is incomplete combustion and scooting cannot be avoided. However, we cannot minimize it.
You must first use the best wax possible (which is what we do). Next, you must choose the best all-natural and safest wicks. Finally, you need to perform a lot of tests. You’d be amazed to see that we have a table where we test, test, and retest.
Then there’s trimming the wick. Here’s where you come in. Regularly trimming your candle wicks to 1/4″ is the best way to reduce soot. This is something that many people forget to do before lighting a candle. However, it makes a big difference. To snip the vessel’s wick, we use a trimmer. They’re not expensive and cleverly designed to catch the trimmed area so that you can remove it easily. They are always available in our studios and homes.
Sustainable Business Values
While it is great to create more sustainable candles, it is also important to examine how they are made. Companies that make eco-friendly products by using harmful processes or donate to poverty while still earning poverty wages are not living up to the values they advocate.
