Driving is amazing freedom but comes with a lot of responsibility that many new drivers aren’t used to. It can seem daunting to take control of a car. You may feel nervous about how other drivers will view you. Or you might be excited to face a new challenge. You can learn how to drive confidently with the help of a qualified driving instructor.
Preparing for any adventure is similar to getting ready for it. There are many ways that you can get ready for your first steps. It doesn’t have to feel scary to learn your first driving lesson. We’ve compiled some tips for your first lesson with your driving coach to make it easier.
Let’s start our first lesson on driving!
Sleep well the night before you take your first driving lesson
You must be rested the day before your driving lesson. It is important to get enough sleep every night before learning driving lessons.
Well-rested people are more alert, focused, and energetic. This can make it easier to tackle new challenges. Experts agree that getting enough rest is crucial for building “procedural memories” – which is the learning memory that helps to learn new skills like riding a bicycle or playing an instrument.
Even if that means you need to get to bed earlier than usual, it is important to get a full night’s rest before you start your driving lessons.
You should familiarize yourself with the layout and functions of a typical car
Although cars may be quite different from one another, there are a few common features that all cars share, including:
The accelerator pedal
Brake pedal
Steering wheel
Indicators & lights
Rearview mirrors
Clutch pedal only in manuals
Gear stays put
Dashboard instrument panel
The exact locations of controls may vary depending on age, car model, and car type. An example of this is a manual car that has a clutch pedal and a gear stick, while an auto will not. Hybrid automatic/manual cars may have semi-automatic gear selectors close to the steering wheel.
LTrent Driving School allows you to view the vehicle used by a driving instructor. You can then research and study the layout of the vehicle. Knowing where everything should be is a great way to feel confident when you are driving your first lesson. This will help you to respond to potential hazards faster while driving. However, your instructor will have dual pedals for assistance in emergencies.
Drink water before you start your driving lesson.
Drink plenty of water before you begin your driving lesson. Your driving lesson will be easier and more effective if you’re hydrated. You don’t want your focus to slip because you are hungry. A water bottle can be an excellent idea.
Make sure you only take what you need to learn the driving lesson.
Remember to keep your learner driver’s license. It is a legal requirement that you have this license with you at all times when driving a car. You could be charged with driving without it.
Your phone should be turned off or placed in flight mode during driving lessons. You won’t need your phone during your driving lesson. It is dangerous and illegal to use a mobile phone while driving.
To sign off your lesson, you will be required to fill out a logbook for learner drivers.
